The foreign currency exchange gives a platform for the exchange of money from one countrys currency to that of another. As the market with the worlds highest daily turnover with more than $2 trillion being traded by the market, the currency traders in the world out-trade the US stock market, the world’s largest equity market.

A huge contrast to the aforementioned US stock market, is that the forex market relatively unregulated. There is simply no centralized exchange and from the start of the New Zealand open on a Sunday night through to the close of the US session on Friday, the forex market moves 24 hours a day, over 5 days per week.

For the retail trader, deals can be executed through telephone transactions with a forex broker or via the internet – hence “online currency trading”. As a worldwide system made up of banks, institutions (eg conglomerate enterprises) the trading takes place in real time, with transfer of funds approx 2 days later aka the Spot value. The different times of the markets functioning eg. US session, Asia session gives the market a different “personality” – volatility and volume traded during the UK session will be different to that of the Asia session normally.

The Evolution of the Currency Markets (FX)

In earlier times, individual retail investors in the forex market could only gain access through banks using large amounts of capital and would take place for business and investment purposes. The banks would do the business for the client. As time has gone on, trading volumes have dramatically risen, particularly after free floating of exchange rates.

A key commodity, foreign exchange allows enterprises to buy and sell goods with overseas country businesses and services, making a supply and demand component which creates a true market. The bank will try to get the best deal for the business client and so a form of bartering takes place of one currency for another. Trading for speculation also exists within banks, institutions and of course, the retail trader forex market. Any individual can take part in the currency market, provided he or she has some resources and has put time in to learn how to trade and recognise the fine points of trading the currency markets.

As with any investment there are pros and cons. High risk means that, again, like with most investments, you can lose all you invest, and this needs to be taken on board so that money traded is that which can be afforded. There is a lot of talk about forex scam brokerages, (forex scams) and because of the lack of regulation of the forex market, there is an open platform for forex scams in various forms.

There are also advantages such as that a retail trader can learn to trade from an already successful trader through a mentoring program, there are also several good books on online currency trading. It is easy to set up an account with a forex broker, who will normally offer leverage meaning a fraction of what is being traded is actually required as a margin deposit to secure any potential losses on the part of the trader.

To make an income, there must be a variation in the exchange rates between a pair of currencies. The market is liquid and can be volatile. Currencies continuously change against each other in response to world events, financial announcements, professional investor behavior and historical market performance. This happens regardless of the economic conditions in individual countries since each currency affects another. The forex market has been described as the supreme marketplace and is without doubt recession proof.

Money trading is a trade of currencies from various countries. Currency trading may seem very complex and risky. But, we must understand that the medium of exchange is a very simple system and can be performed by anyone.

First, you should understand that bargaining chip (also known as Forex) is having most money in the world’s market. This currency trading generates an exchange of more than one billion dollars in one day.

Forex is not centralized but it is spread world wide. It deals with various currencies from different parts of the world. Unlike the stock market, forex currency trading is mostly contained on one trading platform.

Forex currency trading works around the clock, seven days a week, And does not stop and people can any time trade currencies. That’s one reason for Forex trading to have more liquid and thus the largest financial market in the whole world.

The cost of a currency depends on how stable the government is. you must have noticed, that any country that does not have stable government , they will have a low value currency. Therefore, if you want to trade currency of a particular country then that country should have a stable government.

You can make more profits only when you buy currencies at low cost and then sell them when the value is high in the market. In another word to explain this is to buy the currency cheap and sell when it becomes expensive.

In trading of currencies one should know when to buy the currency and when they can sell it in the market.

This trading for currency can provide the opportunity to make more and larger and become rich. the traders in the forex currency trade can utilize the leverage of 100:1. That means that every dollar leveraged in the trading market, you get to borrow one hundred dollars .That means you can have more purchasing power in the currency trading Forex market.

Forex is fast and highly volatile. In a short period, with only a small investment, you can get bigger returns in a short time.

One more great advantage of currency trading is that it is not based upon the commission. So you get to keep the whole benefit for your investments.

The small investors in the forex currency trading market makes a significant amount of revenue and live a comfortable livelihood.

The only drawback is that the Forex because of the larger leverage , it can become very risky and you may lose in a trade. To minimize this risk, you have to plan an effective financial management..

Remember that while you invest in a currency, you are indirectly investing in the government of that country. That is why it is very important , that the government is stable so that the currency you have bought will go for the best price.

Trading options in the Foreign Exchange Market are being widely used in Currency Trading. Options are legal contracts between a buyer and a seller. In order to understand how they work, you should first have an idea on the parts of the contract and their purpose.

Strike Price – This is the price of the goods determined in the writing of the contract. This cannot change throughout the contract.

Expiration Date – This is the date where the contract dies or becomes unusable to the buyer. In other words, the buyer has a limited time to execute the contract.

Goods – The contract would have a set amount of goods involved for sale, in this case foreign currency.

Now, the writer of the contract known as the seller would determine the said factors above. The buyer would then purchase the right to buy the goods within the duration of the contract determined by the expiration date. Since the price wouldn’t change, the buyer can make money when the market goes up. Here are things to remember before purchasing an option:

1. Learn to understand the movements of the market.

2. Sharpen your skills in predicting the movements of the market.

3. Don’t buy an option that is close to expiry.

4. Buy low and sell high, execute the contract at the peak of profitability. Timing is crucial.

It may be difficult but it is possible to earn a killing in Currency Trading. The most important thing to keep in mind is to stay alert and focus on what you are doing.

Mansi Gupta asked:

Currency trading or forex (foreign exchange) as the name suggests refers to the act of exchanging the legal tender of one country for another. “In finance the exchange rate between two currencies specifies how much one currency is worth in terms of the other”. For instance an exchange of 200 Japanese yen to dollar indicate that 120 yen is worth the same as 1USD. Exchange rate is also called as foreign currency rate.

Currency trading is a very ancient phenomenon. Its existence can be traced back to time before money and Internet were discovered. The custom of currency trading began with the bartering system i.e. our ancestors commenced trading of goods against other goods. This bartering system was quite incompetent and needed lot of negotiation and investigation to be able to strike a deal. In the years that followed the important metals such gold, silver and bronze were standardized and graded to make easy the exchange of merchandise. The grounds for these mediums of exchange were acceptance by the general public and realistic variables such as durability and storage. As the middle age came, a variety of paper exchange started taking place and that became quite popular as an exchange medium.

Time passed by and the simple bartering system evolved into a complex and huge industry of foreign or currency exchange. Though with the use of money and banks the system developed to a large extent but it is still developing with the aid of Internet.

Currency exchange is not a simple task. It requires enormous time, market knowledge, ability to study the current market and predict its future course and also immense self-control. But the currency exchange market is extremely volatile and fast. There is no guarantee either of profit or of loss. To be successful in this market a trader has to take into consideration technical and fundamental data and make an informed decision on behalf of his observation of forex futures trading market sentiment and market expectations. Proper planning in timing a trade correctly is perhaps the most crucial factor in successful currency trading. However yet there are times when a trader misses the mark i.e. when his timing will be off.

Besides timing factor being rightly handled, patience of a trader is also quite essential. Perseverance is one of the essential characteristics of a trader. He or she might not be academically qualified enough but must have the potential to stand for a good time in the market. It is only after spending a good amount of time that you understand the intricacies of the market and start accruing some gains.

You should not hesitate to take the help of an experienced trader whom you know and trust. It is very difficult to survive in this currency trade market without the help of qualified professionals. So in the beginning it is better for any naïve trader to take the help of professionals.

If you are not incurring gains for a long time and do not hope that in near future, stop for sometime. This will give you mental peace and entitles you to get out at certain points on trade.

At the end of the day don’t forget that in the market of currency exchange, experience is the biggest teacher of all.
